Delve into the delights of sustainability and discover the feel-good magic of artful upcycling.

In these introductory sessions, you’ll transform trash into treasure, and make two creations to take home. Each workshop will explore different methods of sustainable artmaking, including hand-cut collage, abstract mixed media and found object bricolage.

You’ll learn basic techniques and stylistic approaches appropriate to each medium, with an emphasis on drawing out and harnessing your own creative instincts.

Along the way we’ll talk about diverse approaches to artmaking, including compositional strategies, juxtaposition, colour harmony & dissent, the art of illusion and storytelling through imagery. We'll look at different styles including surrealism, abstraction and magical realism. We’ll also chat about the empowering role of artists as warriors of waste and voices of change.

And it’s The Salons… there’ll be wine, tea, snacks, and good conversation… join us for a perfectly sustainable Saturday afternoon in Spring!

Come take part in the wonderful Afro-Cuban tradition of songs, rhythms and chants from the unique melting pot of Indigenous, African and European traditions that is Cuban culture.

In this series of relaxed, interactive workshops, The Third Voice will lead you in an exploration of Cuban hypnotic grooves through clapping rhythms and body percussion. You’ll sing chants and praise poems in the Lucumí language: a Spanish and Yoruba potpourri from Cuba. These songs are dedicated to the natural elements—the ocean, the wind, the rivers—and celebrate love.

  • DRAWING SOUNDS intersensory sessions in music, art & poetry

Enter the weird and wonderful world of polymathy, synaesthesia and ekphrasis… lean into poetry, art and live music to develop intersensory approaches to your creative practice.

In the relaxed, safe space of Newtown’s Garden Lounge, we’ll draw from poetry, visual artwork and live music to harness the sensed crossings between words, images and sounds.

Develop practical methods for overcoming obstacles such as writer’s lull, imposter syndrome, the blank page, artistic flatlining and motivational stagnation…

Or simply come and enjoy paired-back, improvisational performances and artists of all kinds at work!
