Grey skies/dark nights

I was barely asleep
I dreamed carelessly
and it was so grey outside
so glary
that when I squinted my eyes
it forced me to smile
and now no nightmare scares me
and it was so dark outside after sundown
and no street lamp would share with me
that I turned on my light
and through darkness my life
well I was given the means to move on

so if grey skies make you smile
they were worth all the while
and if darkness brings the light
well then another day I’ll fight
